Tassl 2.6 and Android Preview

Tassl 2.6 went out last night, it has been a while since the last release! This version was mostly focused on adding functionality necessary to support mobile phones. You can check out the Tassl for Android Preview to get an idea of what what will be possible with Tassl on your mobile phone. Look for support of more phones soon, particularly ones that actually exist :)

Additionally, this release introduces Section Chat, which makes it possible for you to chat with the classmates in your Lectures, Labs, and Recitations. Simply load Tassl while you are sitting in class, go to the "Course Chat" tab, and you will be joined into a Chat Room for your section. This can be really useful if you have quick questions you would like to ask other students without interrupting the lecture!

Tassl 2.0! Introducing the School Feed

Tassl 2.0 is now up and running! Looking back, Tassl 1.0 originally was a basic tool you could use to organize your class schedule, using the real data from your university. Tassl 2.0 completes the foundation for the vision of providing an end to end tool students can use throughout the semester to simplify college life.

What brings it all together? The School Feed. Like the Facebook News Feed, the Tassl School Feed keeps you up to date with what is going on within Tassl. It lets you know when assignments or exams are posted, and when discussions are taking place. In addition, unlike the normal Facebook News Feed, the Tassl School Feed tells you what's happening in the future, by reminding you of upcoming assignments and exams.

The School Feed will grow into the one place you can turn to in order to manage your college life on Tassl. (You can get to the school feed by moving your mouse to the left side of Tassl, and clicking on the "School Feed" slider!)

Information from the School Feed can also show up on your Facebook News Feed!

By choosing to publish School Feed stories into your News Feed, you can help spread Tassl throughout your class. The more people in your classes who use Tassl, the more likely your course will contain up-to-date information about assignments and exams.

A common complaint with Facebook apps is that they expose too much information over the News Feed. So, Tassl 2.0 includes controls to allow you to filter specifically which stories you want to publish, both to your School Feed, and your News Feed. Simply click "Change your Settings" at the top of Tassl:

The School Feed completes the circle of functionality for the initial rollout of Tassl: you can now schedule your classes using accurate information from the real course roster, post assignments and exams, and be kept "in the loop" about what others are posting within your classes.

Tassl 1.8 Released -- Assignments, Exams, and More!

Tassl v1.8 went out last night -- this is a big release! This version of Tassl is the first that allows you to collaborate and share information with other students in your classes. By clicking on the course boxes on your schedule, you can drill into content for that course. Here's an overview of what's new:

Course Wall
The first thing you'll notice when you click on a course is the Course Wall.

This is a great place to post one-off questions or updates about the class.

Course Info
The Course Info page lets you see at a glance all the section information for a course.

This also includes links to the Facebook profiles for everyone in each section. Beyond that, it includes the times, locations, and professors for each section, if available.

Assignments & Exams
You can now post your course assignments and exams on Tassl! This will make it easy for you to see at a glance what you need to be working on in a course.

If you post an assignment or an exam, it will be visible to everyone who has added that course. Tassl allows you to specify various information about assignments and exams, such as what kind they are and how much effort you think they will entail. Other students can go in and update this information if it's inaccurate. Also, each assignment or exam has a Wall for collaboration!

Discussions
For discussions that get more involved than the Course Wall, you can now also post Discussion Topics for a course. The discussions work just like the Course Wall, but are isolated to a specific topic.

Look for more features coming soon like these that will allow you to quickly see at a glance what is going on in your courses!

An Early Christmas Present: Tassl 1.7 Released!

Tassl 1.7 is now available! There are a bunch of new features and polish that makes this the best version of Tassl yet. It also marks an important milestone for Tassl: the submission to the Facebook app directory! Tassl is now available for everyone to use to simplify college life.

Here's what's new:

Quick Friend Icon

You can now quickly see how many friends and classmates you have that Tassl knows about for your lectures, discussions, and labs.
Just hover your mouse over the little Facebook icon and you can see how many of each are in that section. Click the icon to quickly see who they are, and go to their profiles.

Quick Section Change

If you see a "Next" or "Change" icon below the time box for a section, you can click "Change" to see a list of all the available sections. Click a section to jump to one, or hold your mouse over the Facebook icon to see how many friends/classmates there are in that section. You can also click "Next" to cycle through all the sections right there on your schedule.

Join Class Link

When you update your schedule in Tassl, your Facebook profile has a small box outlining your classes. Now, your friends can easily join your classes by hitting the Join Class link right from your profile.

Sending Feedback

At the top of Tassl there is now a "Send Us Feedback" link.

If you've found any problems with your course data, any bugs, or have any ideas on how to make Tassl better, don't hesitate to let us know!

Beyond these new features Tassl has gotten lots of polish and speed improvements, so hopefully you'll agree that it's the way to go when you want to figure out how to manage college life! Head on over to tassl.com to check it out!
